Bespoke Home and Online Tuition
A full-time, professional tutor, I teach UK and US politics, Political Ideologies, History, International Relations, Middle Eastern Studies and Hebrew. I tutor at GCSE, AS/A2 and degree level, and cater for the casual learner. In addition to one-to-one and online tuition throughout the academic year, I offer intensive tuition during school and university holidays, which both tutees and parents find particularly useful for preparation, consolidation of knowledge and, if need be, to get a tutee back on track. For peace of mind, I have an enhanced DBS check, and am subscribed to the annual update service. I am also available for dissertation consultation, proofreading, and help in exam and essay writing.
Relaxed, interactive, theme-based, and multi-disciplinary. Use of past papers, analysis, deconstruction of exam and essay questions, concepts, and requirements; development of essay, and exam structure. I pay particular attention to a student's self-confidence, and self-expression, which often serve as catalysts for enhanced self-belief and, hence, success.

From Paul 5/5: (A level Politics) Howard is an exceptional tutor. He took time to understand what our son really required and to provide a level of tutoring and support that exceeded our expectations. We consider he is responsible for turning around our son's A level performance, giving him the knowledge and examination skills and improving his confidence and self belief
From Sahib 5/5: (BA Politics) I was lucky to come across Howard at the time I did, as he taught me so much in such little time. Very patient and made me feel comfortable straight away. This allowed to me to ask any question on my mind, whether I felt it was silly or not. Very grateful to have been taught by him!
From Maria 5/5: (A level Politics) Howard has been extremely helpful with providing me with core knowledge for my Politics A-Level exam in July. His lessons are really engaging and insightful; his feedback is always really thorough and he is ready to help you tackle any topic or question. It helps that he's got a great sense of humour too, which definitely keeps you on your toes. His approach has been flexible, and he has adapted to my needs. Whenever I need help throughout the week or have a question, he has always made room for me and his response time is superb. Highly recommend.
From Joshua 5/5: (A level Politics) Howard has been a fabulous tutor. He has drastically helped me improve in politics. Before Howard, I was struggling with the content but, after having him teach me the course I am able to answer exam questions extremely well. I have him twice a week and the lessons are always extremely well prepared. I can always finish the lesson with a full page of notes. When it comes to Government and Politics, Howard has been extraordinary at being able to help me see the 'big picture'. Especially when it comes to the different ideologies. Therefore, if you need a tutor to help you with Government and Politics, then I would highly recommended lessons with Howard.
From Frank 5/5: (BA Politics) Howard's guidance and analysis in second to none. He helped me with my undergraduate dissertation, providing not only excellent proof reading comments but also superb advice for the direction and content of the work. It's safe to say that I would not have been able to achieve a first without him.
From Ellen: (A level History) Howard has a relaxed approach and a wealth of knowledge in history. For our daughter in particular Modern Britain and The Russian Revolution. My daughter needed help with essay structure and how to approach a sources question. Howard has raised her understanding resulting in improved grades from a C to an A in a couple of months. His approach and teaching methods suit her learning style and she now has renewed confidence in her ability to succeed. I cannot recommend him highly enough.
I cannot thank you enough for your help in getting me over the line with my Cambridge MPhil dissertation. We didn't know each other until I contacted you out of the blue in March, with some 12 weeks to go before the submission date, and I was floundering. Your expertise in the topic, and understanding of my predicament meant that you were able to give me the reassurance and direction that were essential in my completing the task. Without your help and encouragement, I would be sitting here today with an unfinished piece of work, ruing the fact that I had all the information, but struggling to put it into context and produce a document worthy of submission. Your speed of review was most impressive - you were reliable to a fault.
Thank you again, Howard - I have no hesitation in recommending your services.
Since writing this, Anon achieved a first in his MPhil dissertation.
From Santa (5/5): (GCSE History) Howard is an extremely good teacher. My daughter is very happy to study with him, which is a miracle in itself.
From Simon (5/5): (A-Level History) Howard has an impressive past as an academic but that is not why he is an inspirational tutor. He is an inspirational tutor because of the attitude he has towards his tutees and his passion for any topic where a debate can be had or an opinion expressed. Howard has hugely improved my confidence in essay based subjects but also in my abilities generally and the cherry on the cake is my grades have improved and my teachers have noticed a difference. I thoroughly look forward to my weekly sessions with Howard because I know he cares and because I know it will be interesting and filled with his rye sense of humour and unique personality. Howard is always willing to , and has, put in the extra hours for me and I am very grateful.
From Chris (5/5): (A-Level History) Brilliant tutor! Helped me with knowledge but more importantly for the structure of my essays. He tailored the lessons to what I needed to get the best grade. He's already boosted me from a D to a B. Genuinely really great tutor
From Haris: (University Middle Eastern Studies) I have had a couple of sessions with Howard, and he is superb. The sessions are fully engaging, he has clearly conducted research prior to the session, and has transformed my grades from a 2.1 to a 1st. And this was only after 2 sessions! I would wholeheartedly recommend Howard to anyone looking to significantly improve their understanding and grades, and I personally couldn't ask for anything more.
From Olivia: (AS History) Howard has given me the confidence to start my independent work and ensured that my grades have greatly improved. I am now so much more confident in my essay writing skills, and analysis skills, and I am able to understand the material now that is has been explained to me in a different, more personal way. I am greatly appreciative of the work that Howard has done-not only does he help me in the lesson but I know that if I need help at any other time, he is available. Howard has made the biggest difference to my AS level grade, and I don't know what I would have done without him!
From Daisy: (A2 Government and Politics) In just a matter of weeks, Howard has been able to turn my daughter from disillusioned to interested and engaged. Howard just has a great style of teaching - he clearly knows his subject backwards but makes it accessible by striking the balance between informative, fun and engaging. I would recommend Howard to anyone.
From Zahra: (University Government and Politics) I have had several sessions with Howard, and am planning to have more. I tried other tutors in politics with cheaper fares but with him you get what you pay for as he knows his stuff and is able to transmit the information to his tutee level - in other words, he is able to explain complex issues in simple way. He is understanding, encouraging and welcoming. I would strongly recommend him to anyone. He is the PERFECT tutor!
From Jovan: (A2 History) Howard not only has a detailed knowledge of history but is able to communicate this in an extremely interesting and informative fashion. His level of teaching in this sphere is inspirational and he brings history a unique appeal, which demands attention and provides insights into complex areas making them comprehensible. He is also able to take large tracts of information and is able to translate them into simple understandable rhythms of history. After only 3 sessions with Howard I went from a B/C grade in A2 history to a high A grade. I would highly recommend Howard as a tutor.
From Madeleine: (AS Politics) I wholeheartedly recommend Howard as a tutor. He is a fascinating raconteur and my 16 year old son enjoys every moment of his politics lessons with Howard.
My son sometimes needs somebody to bring him out of himself and Howard is fantastic at this, and he has given my son a real enthusiasm for the subject.
From Adam (5/5): (A2 Government and Politics) What an incredible tutor! We look forward to a long and positive tutor-student relationship between Howard and my godson, Mo. Timely, professional, friendly and funny. Extremely knowledgeable and encouraging. He's brought out the best in my boy, and as a parent, I couldn't ask for more. Highly recommended Tutor - 10/10
From Saralynn and Gabe: (A2 History and A2 US Politics)
Howard has made a great difference - Gabe is now far more engaged with both subjects and this has been recognised by the school. He is on track to gain As and has decided to do Politics and International Relations at university. I would recommend Howard not only for his educational abilities but also his sense of humour!
He has also been nice to the cats… always a bonus.
From Adrian (5/5): (Beginner Hebrew) Howard is a very knowledgeable tutor who has a relaxed but informative style and makes lessons interactive and interesting. He is happy to adapt lessons to the way the pupil learns best so as to ensure the pupil's objectives are met. I would happily recommend Howard to anyone wishing to learn Hebrew.
From Antoni and Aron (GCSE English) Howard's unique teaching combination of humour and extensive knowledge in the subject matter make his lessons engaging and interactive. He always ensures that the pupil's objectives are met by the end of the lesson. I would highly recommend Howard as a very good tutor. Since writing this review, Aron achieved 39/40 in his English Literature coursework.
